Stewardship Courses:
Sponsored by TLC Education and Foundation
Curriculum design modeled from Earth Force and Tamela
Trussell.
ALL Environmental Stewardship Courses will emphasize problem-solving
& civic action. The course will follow the teaching philosophy and goals
laid out below.
TLC Education courses are designed to teach Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) through classroom and field
investigation, research, problem-solving, debate, discourse, media,
guest speakers, civic engagement, and environmental education. With
educators’ facilitation, students will use their knowledge and resources
to employ the Earth Force process to identify and research community
environmental issues, resulting in a civic action project that addresses
their selected issue.

Canine Sharp ROBOTICS
8 Classes twice/month- 1st and 3rd Monday or Tuesday of
the month except the first
September class.
Our goal with Canine Sharp Robotics is to have fun with
robotics, experience engineering concepts, and learn
about physics, science and math. The LEGO Robotics EV3
systems are provided during the Canine Robotics classes.
Students will build machines, integrate motors and
sensors, and develop software to control the robot. Each
session will begin with a problem and some background
information. Students will work in small groups to
engineer a strategy and design a robot to meet the
challenge. During classes, we will promote creativity,
leadership, problem solving skills, process management,
and technical learning.
Youth of the robotics classes will be placed into 10-13yr.
and 14-18yr. groups as well as beginner and advanced
(having 1 or more semesters experience with the EV3
program).

SCIENCE
Courses
Participation options: 1) participating only
in class, 2) doing some outside assigned
work, or 3) all the assigned work for a grade
and credit. A certificate of participation in
class will be given to all students. My
signature for credit and grade is only given
for the third option. HS and MS students will
have different textbooks and expectations.
Students will engage in investigative labs and
activities during most classes. Topics also
include the management of natural
resources and analysis of private and
governmental decisions impacting life on
earth. Students will learn that political and
private decisions affect all life forms.
Expectations: Students earning a grade are
expected to work an average of 4-6 hr./ wk. to complete assigned work.
Computers are needed to access and complete this work. Grades are
comprised of participation, assignments, quizzes, projects, tests,
papers, labs and a final exam. Students will also need to attend a
fieldtrip outside of class time. Two to four opportunities will be offered.
Students opting out of the grade option may attend and enjoy class.
Each student will need a 2-inch binder with 8 tab separators, 8 colored
erasable pens or erasable colored pencils, a metric ruler, 3-4” blade
scissors, a scientific calculator, lined and graph paper, recyclables as
needed, and a home computer. A laptop brought to class is
recommended but not required for class.

students understand the relationship between humans and the world in
which we live.
This course surveys key topic areas including the application of scientific
process to environmental analysis of ecology, energy flow, ecological
structures, earth systems, and atmospheric, land, and water science.
Topics also include the management of natural resources and analysis of
private and governmental decisions involving the environment. Students
explore actual case studies and conduct investigative studies. There are
unit-long research activities. Students learn that political and private
decisions about the environment and the use of resources require
accurate application of scientific processes, including proper data
collection, analysis, and responsible conclusions.
